As a “Serial Entrepreneur & Member of Family-owned businesses” and “SME Rights Activists” from 1985 - 1992, Mr. Chandrakant Salunkhe has realized that the imminent need & importance of a unique platform and founded “SME Chamber of India” in 1993 to support Small & Medium Businesses (SSIs) & Manufacturing industries for better business growth, export promotion and to help resolve the issues & empower them for global Competitiveness. Mr. Salunkhe has been always at the forefront to present various issues of SMEs for redressal, secure the interest of the SME sector. He has been regularly interacting with policy makers, Prime Ministers, ministers, government officials from union & states government, Heads of regulatory authorities, financial institutions & corporate, policy change & implementation, advocacy for new schemes, benefits & incentives, strengthening SMEs to generate more employment and give more priority in “Ease of Doing Business at various states & national levels”. He also taken the lead to set up the “SME Stock Exchange”, TReDS – Electronic platform for Trade Receivables, National Skill Development Corporation, Change of Definition of SMEs in 2002 & 2020, exclusive SME divisions in every Indian embassy, Start-up India platform and enhancement of the limit of collateral free credit facilities for SMEs.

Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Salunkhe, The SME Chamber of India, has been organising useful & unique initiatives to explore new business opportunities, connectivity for Business growth & expansion, the transformation of SMEs for better profitability & business diversification, channelising finance & investment, identifying emerging export opportunities, joint venture, technology transfer, contract manufacturing, merger & acquisitions, import facilitation, commercialization of inventions & innovations, imparting knowledge & education, Government Services, setting up new manufacturing industries, support for the marketing, promotion, franchise, distributorship and various initiatives for revival of sick SME & manufacturing units. Mr. Salunkhe has also initiated various organisations & brands: Federation of Indian SME Associations, World SME Trade Centre, Maharashtra Industrial and Economic Development Association (MIEDA), India International Trade Centre, SME Export Promotion Council, SME Business Management Institute, SME Investment Promotion Council, Packaging Industry Association of India (PIAI), Start-Ups Council of India, SME Technology Development Council, Marathi Chamber of Business and Industries, SME Business Forum, Women Entrepreneurs Development Council, SME Insurance Promotion Council and International Business Forum of India for countries: US, Canada, Europe, Japan, GCC, UK, China, Africa, Germany, South Korea, Brazil, Poland, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria. As the thought leader, Mr. Salunkhe has been actively addressing various national & international events to promote “Made-in-India brand”, produced by SMEs, export business, collaborations and establish business cooperation with overseas organisations.

Looking at efforts & contributions by SMEs and role & responsibilities for economic & industrial growth & generation of large employment, Mr Salunkhe has initiated India SME TV, a platform, to provide opportunities to SMEs, Business tycoons, CEOs of Corporates & FIs, Start-ups, young & Women entrepreneurs, thought leaders, stakeholders and policy makers to share knowledge, experience, views, ideas, concepts and showcase & brand unique products, invention, innovation, exemplary achievements and ideas to educate, empower & transform other SMEs & entrepreneurs and their workforce to improve their abilities & capabilities and also to present their issues and difficulties for attracting the attention of policy makers and stakeholders for immediate redressal and appropriate solutions to create level playing field in the competitive era.
